50 years ago: Aug. 10, 1973

Altoona Police Officers William Cross and Glen Kuhn distributed canisters to Candy Stripers and Mercy Mints volunteers at Altoona and Mercy Hospitals for them to collect money for the American Cancer Society.

25 years ago: Aug. 10, 1998

Duncansville native Michelle Stefanick was an employee of the U.S. Embassy in Kenya but was on a trip to Ethiopia when the Kenyan Embassy was bombed by terrorists, killing over 200 people. At least 10 people were also killed in an explosion in Tanzania.

10 years ago: Aug. 10, 2013

The Altoona Housing Authority's downtown 11th Street and Green Avenue Towers held a "Grandparents Day" for residents. Elizabeth Arsenault of Green Avenue Tower had one of the highest number of grandchildren at 23 and Jesse Montgomery had 22.
