Hollidaysburg students achieve awards for biliteracy

Through a grant through the HASD Foundation, Hollidaysburg Area Senior High students were able to take the AAPPL exam this spring to assess their proficiency in a language other than English.

Students were assessed on their language proficiency through four different categories: listening, reading, writing and speaking.

HASH Biliteracy Award was given in recognition of students who have attained at least a proficient Keystone Literature Exam score and received at least intermediate-mid in two or more categories on the AAPPL exam and are not novice in any category.

The Global Seal of Biliteracy is for any student who has attained a proficient Keystone Literature Exam score and received at least intermediate-mid I4 in all four categories on the AAPPL exam.

Hollidaysburg Area Senior High Biliteracy Award students are William Zhu for Intermediate-Mid proficiency in German, Nina Meadows for Intermediate-Mid proficiency in Spanish, Allison Melbinger for Intermediate Mid to Intermediate High proficiency in French and Evelyn Tang and Neo Chen for Intermediate High proficiency in Mandarin Chinese.
