The Hollidaysburg Area Arts Council will present a weekend of music on Saturday, Aug. 19, and Sunday, Aug. 20. Altoona Symphony Orchestra’s Family Summer Celebration will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 19 at Canal Basin Park, 101 Canal St., Hollidaysburg, featuring patriotic, Broadway, popular and a sneak peak at music from its 95th season. Food and drinks will be available for purchase (cash only), courtesy of Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren. Then on Aug. 20, the Altoona Youth Symphony (above) will perform at 2 p.m. at Canal Basin Park. The AYO was created to enhance the lives of student string musicians in the Central PA community. The AYO is under the direction of Stephanie Everett (Hollidaysburg Area High School) and Kelly Detwiler (Altoona Area High School). In the event of inclement weather, the concerts will move to the Hollidaysburg Senor High School. Check Facebook for updates.
