50 years ago: 1973

Navy Lt. Cmdr. Edward Davis, who spent 7½ years as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam and was married to Gallitzin native Elaine Bender, gave a talk on his experiences at the Gallitzin American Legion Post 174.

25 years ago: 1998

The Altoona City Water Authority, Lou Bonasso operations director, said that about 37% of its water usage wasn't being accounted for, 4.2 million gallons out of 11.3 million gallons treated daily. The average loss for a system was 10 to 12%.

10 years ago: 2013

Bellwood Borough held a 125th anniversary celebration with Lou Seidel as organizer. A parade, historic bus tour, classic car show and a time capsule closing at Bellwood-Antis Community Park were part of the activities.
