The Sheetz Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence, Altoona LaunchBox Supported by the Hite family, Claysburg-Kimmel School District and Claysburg Education Foundation teamed up recently to host the Innovation TestLab program at Penn State Altoona.
Innovation TestLab, a multi-week program for high school students, offers participants the opportunity to experience a college classroom setting while learning concepts such as critical thinking, innovation and customer discovery.
Twenty Claysburg-Kimmel students met at the Sheetz Center on Wednesdays beginning Feb. 1.
Teams focused on developing ideas to improve their lives and learning at school.
Students were guided through a project-building and pitch-presentation course.
The Innovation TestLab culminated on March 22, when students made final presentations to their peers and others including judges from the foundation, Claysburg-Kimmel School administration and community.
Thanks to the generosity of the foundation and community supporter Mark Barnhart, a total of $21,000 was awarded to fund the implementation of the student-generated ideas.
