Hollidaysburg library sets programs
The Hollidaysburg Area Public Library has announced its activities for May.
The library will be closed May 27, 28 and 29 in observance of Memorial Day.
n Canasta and Mah Jongg games are held at 11 a.m. Mondays. Beginners are welcome.
n Maker Mondays are held all day Mondays in the Children’s Room. A station will be set up with a different craft, challenge or activity each week.
n Needlework & Arts Group is held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Take your own materials and projects for this crafting club intended for adults.
n Twisted Stitchers meets from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays. This is a new crochet and knitting club. Take your own project, yarn, and hooks; spend time with other crafters.
n Storytimes will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays. Stories, songs, shaky eggs, bubbles and a craft. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver.
n Legos in the Library will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Fridays. The library will supply the Legos! Intended for children ages 5-12 years of age.
n History Hour: The Battle Flag of the 62nd PA Volunteers, Company M: History and Preservation will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4. Amy Dodson, Hollidaysburg Area High School history teacher, avid amateur historian and Civil War re-enactor, will discuss her extensive research on the 62 PA Company M and the Flag Restoration Project. The Flag is currently on display in the library.
n Movie Night will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, May 5. The film “I Still Believe” (Rated PG) will be shown in the Community Room. No signup is necessary.
n Paws to Read will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 6. Meet and read to pets from the Central PA Humane Society. Children ages 5 and up are welcome with their caregivers.
n Mystery & Mayhem Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 9. The group will discuss “Maisie Dobbs” by Jacqueline Winspear.
n Inspirational Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 11. This month’s selection is “The Road Home” by Richard Paul Evans.
n Craveable Creations: Foods to Warm Up With will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 11. Students ages 12-18 can explore comfort foods for cold weather, from warm dips to a hearty soup. Each class will cover food safety and different culinary skills. $5 per class, 4-H members are free. No experience needed.Register now by emailing pennie

n Earth to Moon Exhibit will open at 3 p.m. Friday, May 12, and end the week of June 5. There will be NASA exhibits including real lunar meteorites, photos, interactive displays, 3D models, activity sheets, planetarium shows and much more during regular Library hours. There will also be planetarium shows on May 12 and 13. Email director@halibrary.org to register for the showings. This program is made possible with a partnership with Saint Francis University.
n Medicare 101 will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 17. Join Jocelyn Wolf, licensed sales agent specializing in Medicare and co-founder of Evolve Insurance Group and learn the As, Bs, Cs and Ds of Medicare in easy-to-understand terms with time for Q&A. n Women Writers Book Club will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 17. The group will discuss “Emma” by Jane Austen. For more information, email mikaylamccord16@gmail.com.
n Family Storytime Parachute Play will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 24. Parachute playtime is a fun way to build social skills and engage in physical activity. Participants will use music, props and games to get their bodies and parachutes moving.
