Swinging Squares set May schedule
Swinging Squares Square and Round Dance Club has announced its May schedule.
All dances are held at the Jaggard Street United Methodist Church in Altoona on Thursday evenings. Prerounds start at 6 p.m., with class and club dance from 6:30 to 9 p.m. It is free to watch.

Civics to celebrate 'Titanic" release
The Juniors Civic Association will host an afternoon Tea on the Titanic from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at 206 W 12th Ave.
It is a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the release of the movie "Titanic."
Tickets are $10 and are available at Thompson's Pharmacy on Chestnut Avenue.
Railway employees to meet Wednesday
DUNCANSVILLE -- The National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees will meet at
11 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, at Prime Sirloin Buffet.
NARVRE is the only chartered national organization whose sole purpose is to protect pension rights.
All retired, veteran and present railroad employees (and their spouses) of any craft are invited to attend the meeting of NARVRE Unit 173, Altoona. Members and nonmembers are welcome.

Music Bingo Fundraiser set for May 13
The Beta Epsilon Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International will hold a Music Bingo Fundraiser on May 13 to benefit its scholarship program.
The event will be held at the Adams Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 2, 849 Locust St., St. Michael.
Dinner is at 5 p.m., and bingo begins at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $25 each.

AFSCME retirees to meet Wednesday
The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Retirees Sub-chapter 8306 will meet at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, at the Patchway Road union office.
The executive board will meet at 12:30 p.m.

Democratic women to hold spring tea
The Blair County Federation of Democratic Women will host a spring tea at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 7, at the AFSCME District Council 83 building, 161 Patchway Road, Duncansville.
Candidates for local offices will be on hand. Light refreshments will be available.

Civil War Roundtable to meet Tuesday
STATE COLLEGE -- The Central PA Civil War Round Table will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, at the PA Military Museum auditorium, 51 Boal Ave., Boalsburg .
The featured speakers will be Steve and Laura Riordan on "How the Confederate Navy Saved the Whales." Both will appear in Civil War period dress with Steve Riordan portraying James Waddell, commander of the CSS Shenandoah, and Laura Riordan portraying Waddell's wife Selma Iglehart.
Anyone who is interested in joining the Central PA Civil War Round Table is invited to attend.

HAJHS sets new student orientation, tests
Hollidaysburg Area Junior High School will conduct testing and orientation for students new to the district at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, in the school library.
This event is for students new to the district, entering grades seven, eight or nine in the fall of 2023.
The session will include discussion of curriculum with a guidance counselor, a brief tour and testing. Parents/guardians are encouraged to attend with their child.

Claysburg library starting book club
The Claysburg Area Public Library is starting a new book club.
The club meetings will be held on the second Monday of the month starting in May. The first meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 8.
The group will discuss "Little Souls" by Sandra Dallas.
Sisters to host golf scramble June 2
HOLLIDAYSBURG -- The Sisters of the Carmelite Community of Word's annual golf scramble will be held June 2 at Scotch Valley Country Club.
Registration begins at 7 a.m., and golf begins at 8:30 a.m. Registration is $125 per golfer or $425 per foursome. Individual golfers are welcome. The registration deadline is May 24. The fee includes a continental breakfast, golf, course refreshments, barbecue lunch and prizes.
The cost to attend the lunch and auction only is $15 per person.
Sponsorships and auction donations are welcome.
