The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art will hold children's art camps this summer. The camps will be offered at the Altoona, Bedford and Ligonier museum locations. Camps are taught in small, informal groups.
During the one-week camp, students will be introduced and explore a multitude of art mediums and skills. Students will enhance their learning through creative lessons to foster important developmental skills including problem-solving, organization, self-direction, communication, social, and collaboration. The most important objective for the camp is for the children to have fun!
The camps are being taught by SAMA Teaching Artist, Deb Bunnell in Altoona and Bedford.
The Altoona camp will be held at Fairview Hills Community Center July 10-14.
The Bedford camp will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church June 26-30. The Ligonier camp has sold out.
Classes for the 5- to 9-year-old age group will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday, and 1 to 4 p.m. for ages 10-14. Prepackaged snacks will be provided daily. The cost for this camp is $125 per child, which includes all materials and snacks.
A $25 nonrefundable deposit is requested at registration with the remainder due on the first day of camp. The camps are made possible by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and donors like the Grable Foundation, Jack Buncher Foundation and the Wolf-Kuhn Foundation.
The camps are limited to 15 kids per age group. Scholarships are available upon request.
The scholarships are made possible by funding from the Syra Bettwy Fund and the Stephen J. Pellegrine Scholarship Fund.
