50 years ago: February 10, 1973

U.S. Sen. Richard S. Schweiker was in Altoona to speak at the Republican Party's Lincoln Day Dinner at the Penn Alto Hotel. He praised President Richard Nixon's efforts to end the war in Vietnam, his visit to China and the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks with Russia.

25 years ago: February 10, 1998

A group called The Blair County Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Foundation Inc., Martinsburg Police Chief Richard A. Brantner chairman, was having a statue made to honor fallen police officers that was to be placed at the Blair County Courthouse in Hollidaysburg. The project was to be called "Never to be Forgotten" and $20,000 was needed to be raised.

10 years ago: February 10, 2013

Tom Otto, Clearfield School District superintendent, former teacher/assistant principal at Keith and Roosevelt Junior Highs in Altoona, and Bellwood-Antis principal, was hired as Altoona Area School District superintendent, replacing the retiring Dennis Murray.
