Hollidaysburg Area Public Library sets programs
HOLLIDAYSBURG — The Hollidaysburg Area Public Library has announced its activities for October.
The library will be closed Oct. 8 for Staff Appreciation Day.
n Canasta and Mah Jongg games are held at 11 a.m. Mondays. Beginners are welcome. Call Harriett at 814-693-9292 with questions.
n Maker Mondays are held all day Mondays in the Children’s Room. A station will be set up with a different craft, challenge or activity each week.
n Needlework & Arts Group is held at
12:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Take your own materials and projects for this crafting club intended for adults. Call Janice at 814-695-2281 for more information.
n Allegheny Essential Oils Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26. Visit the club page on Facebook for more information.
n Storytimes will be held Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m., and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. with stories, songs, shaky eggs and bubbles. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver. (There will be no Storytime on Oct. 27.)
n Friday ROCKS will be held from 3:30 to
4:30 p.m. Fridays. This drop-in program is for all ages. Paint rocks to place in public places for finders to keep or re-hide.
n Legos in the Library will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Fridays. Bring your imagination, the library will supply the Legos. Intended for children ages 5-12 years of age.
n French & German for Kids will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 6 and 20. If you are interested in starting to learn a foreign language, this program is for you. Join others to sing, dance, learn and practice speaking French and German. This class is intended for children in kindergarten through sixth grade.
n Inspirational Book Club will meet at
6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13. This month’s book is “Derailed” by Neta and Dave Jackson.
n Mystery Book Club will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11. The group will discuss “All the Missing Girls” by Megan Miranda.
n Cravable Creations: Tastes of the Seasons, will be held from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 13, Nov. 17 and Dec. 15, for those entering sixth through 12th grade. Join 4-H and Nutrition Links to make a variety of favorite recipes during this after-school program. Participants will learn new techniques and cook a new recipe each month. A $5 participant fee per session covers the cost of fresh ingredients. This class fills up fast. Register now by emailing pennie

n PumpkinFest will be held from 10 a.m. to
4 p.m. Oct. 15 in downtown Hollidaysburg. Miss Pennie and Miss Crystal will read Halloween stories in front of the Blair County Courthouse at 10 a.m.
n The Friends of the Library will hold a used book sale at the library Oct. 19 to 21. The preview sale for members of the Friends will be Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday sale hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday sale hours are 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. A $5-a-bag day will begin Thursday evening at 5 p.m. and run through Friday
n Young Adult Book Club will meet at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19. The first book for discussion will be “The Hate U Give” by Angie Thomas. This club is intended for anyone who enjoys a good YA read.
n Special StoryTime will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25 with J.T. Bandzuh from the Blair County Conservation District. J.T. will teach us all about real Halloween animals. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
n Women Writers Book Club will meet at

n Paws to Read will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. Meet and read to pets from the Central PA Humane Society. Children ages 5 and up are welcome with their caregivers.

n History Hour: “Hollidaysburg’s Civil War Black Soldiers: Fighting for Citizenship” will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13. Harriett L. Gaston, DUS adviser at Penn State Altoona, and community historian, will give a presentation on the history of the United States Colored Troops (USCT) soldiers that called Hollidaysburg home.
n Best of Times Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27. This month’s book is “Crying in H Mart” by Michelle Zauner. All are welcome, no signup is necessary.
