Blanket collection kicks off

Annual drive runs through Nov. 2

LORETTO — The Saint Francis University Community Blanketeers collection began Sept. 28 and runs through Nov. 2.

The Saint Francis University Blanketeer group was organized in 2006 by Robin Cadwallader, Margaret Kealey and Melita O’Donnell. Since 2006, the Blanketeers have collected more than 2,337 quilted, crocheted, knitted and embroidered blankets, which have been donated to local children in Blair and Cambria counties and surrounding areas.

Each year the Blanketeers focus on creating comfy, soft blankets for babies and young children.

The blanket collection has been extended to include lap blankets for the elderly.

All blankets should be new and handmade in a size suitable for small hands or laps (approximately 36 x 48 inches).

While any materials are acceptable, washable fabrics and yarns are desirable.

Before blankets are distributed, a small label will be sewn onto a corner of one that reads, Saint Francis University Community Blanketeers.

Blankets can be dropped off in the crib located in the entranceway of Scotus Hall.

Thanks to the generous donation from the President’s Office, the crib will be donated to a local family in need at the end of the blanket drive.

For additional information regarding the Blanketeers, contact O’Donnell at modonnell@francis.edu or call 814-472-3004.

Starting at $2.99/week.
