This Altoona Mirror file photo shows the tables in the central section of the Butterick Company Inc. plant at Beale Avenue and 29th Street. Some 60 women are shown as they fold patterns and enclose them in envelopes for shipment to stores all over the nation who specialize in the sale of Butterick patterns. According to Eugenia J. Miswick, in charge of the pattern manufacturing division, the women averaged between 1,000 and 1,200 patterns each hour. Some were known to have folded and enclose as many as 1,800 per hour. From there, the patterns went to the shipping department at the western end of the building. The photo was taken in 1948.
