STATE COLLEGE -- The Central Pennsylvania Civil War Round Table has announced several activities.
6 p.m., March 1 -- Dinner meeting at the Mount Nittany United Methodist Church, 1500 E. Branch Road. Cost is $14. CWRT Vice President, Capt. Jim Bloom, will speak on "A Bridge Too Far: The Effort to Cut the Savannah-Charleston Railroad." Bloom will discuss the Battles of Honey Hill and Tulifinny Crossroads and the Union Army and Navy's joint efforts in 1864 to destroy key bridges on she Savannah-Charleston Railroad.
7 p.m., April 5 -- PA Military Museum, 51 Boal Ave., Boalsburg. Sam Washburn will speak on "The Role of the U. S. Coast Survey." Washburn will discuss the formation of the U. S. Coast Survey and the map-making for the federal Army. He is Captain of the U. S Coast Survey Mapping Detachment. Mr. Washburn will bring tools, inks, and maps used in Civil War map-making.
The lecture will take place in the theater, and is free and open to the public.
