Altoona City Council proclaimed it Bill Prosser Day in honor of the former mayor. He had been a teacher at Penn State Altoona, employed at SKF and the PRR, helped organize the local Jaycees, was self-employed in business management, was an Army veteran of WWII in the D-Day invasion of France and was married with two sons, among many other accomplishments.

The Claysburg-Kimmel School District formed a school-to-work program with area businesses, Thomas Lantz coordinator, believed to be the first such program in Blair County.
