Baker Mansion announces winter schedule

Tours, lectures and murder-mystery are planned

Baker Mansion has announced its schedule through December. The mansion is open for tours from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

These events are held at Baker Mansion History Museum, 3419 Oak Lane, Altoona, unless otherwise specified

7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 20 -- Lecture Series: Haunted Legends of Blair County. Spooky legends, history and folklores from around Blair County. This free event will be held at the Sanctuary at ArtsAltoona, 2212 Sixth Ave., Altoona; Donations accepted.

5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 22 and 23 -- Lantern tour of the mansion. This is a 30-minute special Baker Mansion History guided tour by lantern. Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children.

6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 26 -- Lantern-Led Haunted History Walk of Downtown Altoona. This is a walking tour of history, legends and folklore; starting at the Mishler Theatre. Cost is $10 if preregistered or $15 day-of.

Oct. 28 -- Trick-or-Treat on the Back Yard (Oak Lane). Walk or drive by for candy/toys during Altoona trick-or-treating hours.

Oct. 29 and 30 -- Mansion Murder Mystery Event, presented by Altoona Dance Theatre at Baker Mansion. Cost is $10 per person.

2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 6 -- Beard and Mustache Contest with Basket Raffle, to be held at Sanctuary at ArtsAltoona. Cost is $10 per category for the contest. Raffle tickets are $5 per 25 tickets.

Nov. 7 to Dec. 24 -- "History for the Holidays" Facebook event. "Like and Share" free event with weekly prizes www.facebook.com/blairhistory.

Nov. 13 -- Mansion opens for Christmas season, fully-decorated by the Blair Garden Club. It will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday. Regular admission price/members tour free.

7 p.m. Nov. 17 -- Lecture Series: 175 Years of Blair County by Dr. Michael Farrow. This free event will be held at the Altoona Railroaders Museum, 1200 Ninth Ave., Altoona; donations accepted.

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 20 and 21 -- Santa Paws photo opportunity with Santa Claus on the side entrance of the Mansion with pets and family. Take your own camera. Cost is $10 per family/pet.

Nov. 26 to 28 -- Closed for Thanksgiving.

Dec. 20 -- Closed for 2021 season and will reopen in May 2022 with new exhibits. The last day to see the Italian-American Immigration Exhibit is Dec. 19.
