Tyrone seeks nominations for ‘Hometown Hero’

TYRONE -- The Tyrone Events and Promotions Committee is looking for the next "Hometown Hero."

Since 2006, the committee has selected individuals from the community that have unselfishly donated their time and energies to programs and projects that benefit the residents outside of their employment.

The "Hometown Hero" is a person who seems to be always there, always involvedin something, and working to make the community a better place to live and work.

Criteria is as follows: Must reside in the Tyrone area and demonstrate an attitude of servant leadership outside their regular employment responsibilities. Recipients can be an individual, couple, organization, or family.

Nominations for 2020 are being accepted until Sept. 1 at the Tyrone Chamber Office or mail to the Chamber at 1004 Logan Ave., Tyrone, PA 16686.

To make a nomination, please submit a letter detailing why this person should be considered for this award. Any documentation to support your letter is appreciated. Please sign, date and include your address and contact information.

The decision of the committee is final.

The awardee and the nominator will be notified of the selection in September.

The presentation of the award will be made in September.

Past recipients include: Cary Simpson, Virgie Werner, the Rev. Norman Huff, Pete Dutrow, Rose Black, Pat Stoner, Jim and Roberta Ramsey, Sue Griep, Harry Sickler, Larrie Derman, Dianne and Mike Thees of Heaven Scent Search and Rescue, Al Shoenberger, Marcia Fink and Lori Eckert.
