Library offers at-home wreath, swag kits
BELLWOOD -- The Bellwood-Antis Public Library's favorite Christmas tradition has had a socially distant update: Creature Teacher Jody Wallace created Take and Make Sustainable Wreath and Swag kits available for a $20 donation to the library. Kits are available now.
Make your wreath or swag at home with help from tutorial videos available at https://tinyurl.com
/y2rxr8wo (tutorial videos courtesy of Wallace, Jill Fitzgerald and the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library).
Customize your kit with a smorgasbord of natural materials curated by the Creature Teacher, or find unique vintage pieces at the library's Christmas Bazaar and Vintage Costume Jewelry Sale.
You will need some basic tools and craft materials at home to use these kits. Wallace recommends a glue gun, wire or string, pliers and clippers or sturdy scissors.
To order a kit, call the library at 742-8234, email
bellwoodantispubliclibrary@gmail.com or message the library on Facebook. Supplies are very limited.
Catholic Daughters continue meetings
HASTINGS -- Our Lady of Victory Court, Catholic Daughters of America, met Nov. 11 at St. Bernard's church hall a week later and at a different location due to an unforeseen COVID-19 incident.
The local court officers attended the state leaders workshop at St. Matthew's church hall in Tyrone. The workshop was led by state leaders and State Regent Shirley Hall.
Keeping in the tradition of the Catholic Daughters Circle Of Love model of involvement, the court donated to a fund drive for a local teen recently diagnosed with leukemia and adopted a family from a local Christmas Joy project. The recent White Ribbon Campaign at all the local churches collected $150 that will be sent to national headquarters to support programs to fight the widespread use of pornography and sexual exploitation.
Raffle tickets were distributed to the members . These fundraisers help provide the money needed to support the local food banks and the community programs to help those in need.
Spiritually is also an important part of the Catholic Daughters; thus, a Rosary was said for the country prior to the meeting with members of the audit committee and members that arrived early participating.
The Dec. 3 meeting was held at Hoss's Steak & Sea House in Ebensburg.

'Giving Circle' to honor Altoona teen
Every year, the Reilly family conducts a "Giving Circle" event to help the community in honor of Jessalyn Reilly of Altoona, who passed away in a car accident at the age of 18.
This year, the family will hold a food collection until Dec. 19. Then a food giveaway will be held at noon Dec. 20 at the Harley Davidson shop on Route 764. They will be giving away boxes of food and turkeys.
Santa will be there to wave at the kids and to give a treat. Everyone is asked to wear a mask when coming for food.
Friends, neighbors, businesses all pitch in to make the event possible.
Salvation Army unit seeks donations
CLAYSBURG -- The 2020 Claysburg Salvation Army Service Unit Campaign has been kicked off. Unfortunately, the community is faced with a COVID-19 pandemic that is getting worse.
If there is any bellringing this year, it will be limited, and that has been the main source of our income.
The newest and easiest is way to participate is through online donating at https://give.salvationarmy.org

/c314339.
Donors also can mail a check made payable to Claysburg Salvation Army to: Lynn and Janice Crist, 277 Bedford St., Claysburg, PA 16625.
Board members are asking churches that are still meeting to take a freewill offering for the Salvation Army at their church on an Advent Sunday before Dec. 25 and contact the unit to make arrangements to pick up offerings.
Funds generated will support the needs of local people in 2021 from Newry, south to Imler, ranging from children, families and senior citizens.
