Nominations sought for environmental awards
Winning entries to receive $5,000
PITTSBURGH — If you have an exciting environmental project to improve your community, then the Pennsylvania Environmental Council and Dominion Energy want to hear from you.
Nominations are now being sought for the 2020 Western Pennsylvania Environmental Awards, given annually to people and organizations who are working to improve the region’s environment.
The Pennsylvania Environmental Council and Dominion Energy co-sponsor these awards and will once again present up to five cash prizes of $5,000 each to winning entries that demonstrate environmental impact and benefits.
The awards process is open to individuals and organizations from every corner of the community, including education, nonprofit organizations, businesses and all levels of government, among others.
Any group, individual, program, company or organization located and working in any of the following 29 Western Pennsylvania counties may submit a nomination: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bedford, Blair, Butler, Cambria, Cameron, Centre, Clarion, Clearfield, Crawford, Elk, Erie, Fayette, Forest, Fulton, Greene, Huntingdon, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, McKean, Mercer, Somerset, Venango, Warren, Washington and Westmoreland.
Successful nominations will demonstrate measurable results and/or impact of the activities.
Nominations will be evaluated by an independent panel of judges and awards program staff.
A cash award of $5,000 will be donated in honor of each winner to qualified nonprofit organizations with environmental programs benefiting Western Pennsylvania.
Nominations are due by Feb. 7. Winners will be notified in March and publicly honored at the 2020 Awards Dinner May 21 in Pittsburgh.
