Bellwood library sets Jan. activities

BELLWOOD — The Bellwood-Antis Public Library has announced its activities for January.

n Bellwood Quilting Bees will present a class at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 2. It is on cutting and sewing patches for a project to make a quilt sampler that will be worked on throughout their 2020 meetings. Meetings are free and open to the public, but take your own sewing supplies. Lists of supplies needed for the project are available at the library.

n At the January Lego Club from noon to 2 p.m. Jan. 4, kids will be challenged to use every single Lego brick in their totally random Official Lego Club Mystery Bag to build their creation for the month.

n Join Danielle for Meditation Mondays, and practice techniques to foster peace of mind, joy and calm in your life. Begin-ners and all levels of experience welcome. This program is for teenagers and adults of all ages. Medita-tion Mondays are at 6:30 p.m. from Jan. 6 through Feb. 10. There will be no session on Jan. 20 due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday.

n The second annual Lego Tower Building Challenge is at 6 p.m. Jan. 13. Kids ages 5 to 15 can beat the winter blues by building a Lego Tower that touches the sky. Lego programs for kids are free, and no sign-ups are needed, but parents and other caregivers must stay in the library while children build.

n Baby Sprouts Toddler Time for families with children ages 18 months to 3 years is held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays from Jan. 14 to May 12 and 10:30 a.m. Thursdays from Jan. 16 through May 14. New families are welcome, and no sign-ups are needed.

n Blair Senior Services will present a free evidence-based workshop at the library for individuals over 60 that discusses ways to make lifestyle changes shown to improve overall health, including exercise, nutrition, action planning, mindfulness and more. Take control and live a healthier life by learning to self-manage your chronic conditions. This workshop runs from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 15 through Feb. 19. n Sensory Saturday Storytime at noon Jan. 18 is for children ages 2 and up with autism, special needs and sensory concerns. The program is free, and no sign-ups are necessary, but a grown-up must stay with the child during the program. There is a free book for all children who attend courtesy of the Central PA Autism Society. A Sensory Library Punch Card can earn prizes for attending events at any library in Blair County.

n The Juniata Valley Audubon Society’s Members Night will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 21. A potluck dinner will be served at 6 p.m., so take a favorite dish to share. Member’s Night includes an assortment of slide shows, videos, wildlife art, nature poetry, nature crafts and other by-products of the Audubon Society’s ongoing fascination with the natural world. n The 2020 Sips & Snacks in the Stacks Wine Tasting library fundraiser is from 7 to 10 p.m. Jan. 25. Enjoy samples from local wineries and winemakers and gourmet appetizers while listening to live music from Raining Blue and Music Man. Tickets are on sale for $25 per person. Purchase tickets at the library or from a board member.

n Knitters, crocheters, weavers and other fiber artists are invited to the next Fiber Arts group meetup from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 27. Take your own materials and project and get to know your fellow fiber artists. All levels of ability and all styles of fiber art welcome.

n Sprouting Readers, the library’s weekly storytime for children ages 3 to 8, will be held at 6:30 p.m. every Monday from Feb. 3 to April 27. Join guest readers for stories, activities, crafts and lots of fun. No sign-ups needed, new families always welcome. There will be no Sprouting Readers on Feb. 17, as the library will be closed in observance of Presidents’ Day.

n Tickets for the Bell-wood-Antis Community Picnic dinner are available at the library. Tickets for DelGrosso’s homemade lasagna dinners are $10 per person and Murph’s Potato Salad tickets are $5. Tickets for the dinner must be purchased in advance. The dinner is from noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Bellwood Fire Hall. Eat in or take out.
