Local teen achieves all 137 merit badges from Boy Scouts

Two years after earning the rank of Eagle on Aug. 9, 2017, 16-year-old Aaron Saylor of Altoona has earned all 137 merit badges offered by the Boy Scouts of America.

Aaron completed his last merit badge on July 24 for insect study. He was honored on Aug. 10 at Troop 49’s court of honor. Aaron is a member of Troop 49, sponsored by Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

After Aaron earned Eagle Scout, he set his goal to earning all 137 merit badges offered by the Boy Scouts of America, which has taken him to many parts of the United States.

While visiting California last summer, he completed two of those merit badges.

He has recently spent time working on scuba diving badge, which took many months to complete.

Along the way, he has met many merit badge counselors whether through camps he attended, merit badge colleges or inidivual counselors of his area.

He wants to thank all of them for helping him reach his goal of 137.
