The Logan Valley Mall hosted visits with the Easter Bunny, a Mad Hatter Tea Party and train rides in an environment designed to welcome children with all spectrums of special needs.

Children visited the Bunny on April 9, one-on-one, prior to the main hours of the mall.

The space was free from most of the distractions that can cause children on the autism spectrum so much anxiety.

There was natural lighting and low noise, and reservations for the visits were placed in advance to minimize wait times.

Mall photographers and volunteers took the extra few minutes to get the perfect picture, and staff was on hand to help families.

Seating options next to the Bunny were available for cautious children and the Bunny set is wheelchair accessible.

Coloring stations and other Mad Hatter and Easter-themed activities, including design-your-own hat and magic color egg ornament added to the festivities of the event.

Four students from Altoona Area High School's Circle of Friends

class also volunteered.

Local parent, Oriel Estrada,

assisted with the mall event, as

well as other area events, in recognition of April as Autism Awareness Month.

Starting at /week.
