The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Altoona will present "A Mother and Child Reunion," a memorial exhibition honoring the artwork of Joan Marie Seltzer and her son, Michael Harris Seltzer, through Sunday, Oct. 4. Joan Marie Seltzer, a longtime Altoona resident, earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Penn State in 1982. She went on to develop a diverse body of work spanning still life, abstraction and drawing. Her artwork has been exhibited throughout the region and beyond, and she was an active supporter of the arts in Altoona. Her son, Michael Harris Seltzer, demonstrated artistic talent from an early age, influenced by both his environment and his mother's creative example. Working primarily in pen, ink, and watercolor, he became known for his intricate, imagined cityscapes--highly detailed works that reflected his unique vision and perspective.
