BEDFORD -- The Bedford County Players will bring Stephen Sondheim's dark and thrilling musical "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" to the Bedford County Playhouse this October, with performances running Oct. 2-11.
Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays at the Bedford County Playhouse, 1044 Centerville Road, Bedford. Tickets are available through the Bedford County Players box office at 814-623-7555 or online at www.bedfordcountyplayers.org
Set in the grim streets of Victorian London, Sweeney Todd follows an infamous barber who returns home after years of wrongful imprisonment, bent on revenge against the man who destroyed his life.
Along the way, he reunites with the resourceful Mrs. Lovett, whose struggling pie shop offers the pair a decidedly unsettling opportunity to pursue their ambitions.
With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, a book by Hugh Wheeler, and an adaptation by Christopher Bond, Sweeney Todd blends dark humor, unforgettable characters, and one of Broadway's most celebrated musical scores.
The Bedford County Players production features Shane Lynn as Sweeney Todd and Stephanie Curry as Mrs. Lovett, with Jonathan Kirk as Anthony Hope, Sarah Fluke as Johanna, Jared Kimble as Tobias Ragg, Croix Picoriello as Judge Turpin, Matt Godissart as the Beadle, Elissa Godissart as the Beggar Woman, Chris Diehl as Adolfo Pirelli and Troy Claar as Jonas Fogg.
The ensemble features Sue Buttermark, Erin Carter, Amanda Colyer, Kylie Eckard, Nadine Glass, Stephen Hess, Krissy Penn and Melonie Rice.
The production is directed by Samantha Diehl, with Sarah Fluke serving as musical director. Matt Godissart is technical director and sound designer, while Shane Lynn oversees set and light design. The production team includes stage managers Debbie Benton and Robin Wilson; property designer Nadine Glass; costume designer Sue Buttermark; choreographer Kari Schofield; light operator and box office manager Kari Dull; sound operator Mark Diehl; music operator Samantha Kennedy; lobby design and concessions manager Debbie Benton; and programs, press and social media manager Beth Ebersole. The set building and painting crew includes Matt Godissart, Shane Lynn, Bob Way, Troy Claar, Nadine Glass, Christopher Diehl, Jim Dull, Croix Picoriello and Stephanie Curry.
"Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International. All authorized performance materials are supplied by MTI.
