Arts Altoona will present a theatre intensive, "Getting to Know Your Character and Yourself," at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, for ages 18 and over, at ArtsAltoona, 2212 Sixth Ave., Altoona. Join the Starlight Astronomy Club and Mountain Lion Observatory to discover the hidden mysteries of Sinking Valley's dark sky at Fort Roberdeau from 8 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29. The night will begin with "Ask an Astronomer Q&A" where you can ask questions about telescopes, UFOs, aliens and astronomy. Dr. Jared Frederick will lead a Civil War Altoona Historic Walking Tour at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, starting outside of Levity Brewing Co., Altoona. The tour will explore Altoona and Blair County's many connections to the Civil War. Tickets are $10 and are available at blairhistory.org/events.
Baker Mansion will host a living history weekend from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, and Sunday, Aug. 30. "A Mansion Divided: The Baker Family and Blair County in the Civil War," will feature living history displays, tintype photography, rare artifact exhibits and a special concert by the 46th PA Regiment Band at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30. Blue Knob State Park, Imler, will host a hike of Look Out Loop Trail to the beautiful Pavia Outlook from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, Aug. 30. Meet at the Pavia Look Out Parking lot and bring hiking shoes and water for this moderate two-mile hike. We will be learning about some of nature's less likable critters. The program is free.
Zeropoint Big Band will perform at the South Hills School of Business and Technology Summer Music Picnic Series at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at 480 Waupelani Drive, State College. Admission and parking are free. The Summer Music Picnic Series is held rain or shine and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs. The Blair County Antique Auto Club is holding their 2026 19th Downtown Cruise in Altoona from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5. The Cruise will showcase all makes and models of domestic and foreign vehicles from the early 1900's and up. The club will have live music provided by R & B Productions on 12th Street and Back When at Heritage Plaza, and offer raffles and t-shirts for purchase, plus door prizes for vehicle participants. Cresson Lake Playhouse is bringing the nostalgia back with 90s Night, a free outdoor concert featuring some of your favorite Cresson Lake Playhouse performers.The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, outside behind the historic CLP barn, weather permitting. Bring a lawnchair. Guests can expect to hear some of the biggest hits of the decade while enjoying themed snacks and drinks. The Forest Hills Labor Day Festival, presented by Adams Township. Volunteer Fire Company No. 2, St. Michael, will be held Sept. 5-7 at Berwind Wayside Park in St. Michael. The Community Arts Center of Cambria County will be holding its 55th Log House Arts Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, and Sunday, Sept. 6, at 1217 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown. This year's festival features over 100 artisans and crafters and their diverse hand-crafted items of jewelry, pottery, bronze, florals, fabric items, handbags and more.
