Night of worship set

A night of worship with eucharistic adoration will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, at St. Michael Church, Hollidaysburg, with Brother Lazarus Travis, T.O.R. There will be praise and worship by the worship team and prayer ministry.

Prayer and praise night

The Well Ministry Center will host an evening of prayer and praise at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 17. The Well is at 605 Burns Ave., Altoona.

Chorus, Singers in concert

The Ministers Chorus of the Western PA Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and the Chi Rho Singers of the Susquehanna Annual Conference will present a joint concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at Bethany United Methodist Church, Portage.

Picnic at the park

Canoe Creek Brethren in Christ Church will host a picnic at the park — Connecting Community to Christ Jesus — event at 3:30 p.m. May 30. Those attending should meet at Pavilion 3 at Canoe Creek State Park. There will be free food, including hamburgers, hotdogs and chicken, fruit, drinks and more. Door prizes and games are all free. The day will conclude with worship at 7 p.m.

Music camp returns

Golf classic scheduled

The 21st Annual Altoona Alliance Men’s Missions Golf Classic will be Friday, June 12, at Iron Masters Country Club. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. Tee time is 1 p.m.

The cost is $75/person or $275/foursome; foursome and sponsorship is $400; a business can sponsor a hole for $200.

Cost includes lunch, 18 holes with cart, golf towel, beverages and snacks on course. Skill prizes will be awarded and a putting contest will be held.

All the money raised goes toward missions education and sending people on short-term missions trips.

Pastor celebrated

Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2121 Fifth Ave., Altoona, will honor Pastor Keith R. Moore on May 24. The 10:45 a.m. worship service will be led by Minister Stephen S. Moore of Goodwin Memorial Baptist Church, Harrisburg. There will be a celebratory luncheon after the service, followed by a 3 p.m. service led by the Rev. Jameson Keith McLaughlin of the Goodwin Memorial Baptist Church, Harrisburg.

Free lunch offered

Providence Presbyterian Church, 2401 Broad Ave., Altoona, will serve a free lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 16. Lunch will include hot dog on a bun, a variety of homemade soups, desserts, fruit and beverages.

Memorial Day Field Mass

The 79th annual Memorial Day Field Mass will be held at Calvary Cemetery at 11 a.m. Monday, May 25.

Food distribution set

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Eighth Avenue and 13th Street, Altoona, will hold its monthly food pantry distribution from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28.

Yard, bake sale planned

Our Lady of Lourdes Church will hold a yard sale and bake sale in the church hall, 2716 Broad Ave., Altoona, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, May 29, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 30. Household and seasonal items, jewelry, books and more will be available. Cash and carry. Use the alley entrance. The church hall is handicap accessible with an elevator.

Plant swap, yard sale set

Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church will host a plant swap and yard sale Saturday, May 16. The yard sale will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and offer a wide variety of items for shoppers of all ages.

The plant swap will take place from 9 a.m. to noon or while supplies last. The swap offers the opportunity for both seasoned gardeners and beginners to share and exchange plants, cuttings, seeds and garden extras. Attendees are encouraged to bring healthy plants to share, flowerpots or gardening tools to help everyone grow their gardens while building community connections.

Tables are available to rent for those who would like to participate in the yard sale. The cost is $10 for DELC members and $20 for non-members.

While admission is free, donations to the church’s Pet Pantry will be accepted, helping the church’s mission to help care for pets in the community.

Refreshments will be available for guests.

Movie night

The movie “The Encounter” will be shown Friday, May 15, at Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue, Altoona. Snacks will be served at 6:30 p.m., followed by the movie at 7 p.m. “The Encounter” features five strangers who are marooned in a deserted roadside diner and encounter a man who knows all of their secrets and can fix all of their problems if they trust in him.

Campus of Prayer set

A Regional Campus of Prayer will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 16. Registration starts at 8 a.m. This event will equip, mentor and train people to reach a lost world through a revived church, and a revived church is a praying church. Tools will be provided through inspired teaching, Christ-encountering worship and prayer that participants can take back to their churches, communities and work place to build upper rooms of prayer.

Cost is $20/person; $25/couple; $10 for those 18 and younger. Each participant will receive a workbook and lunch.

Calvary Boys in concert

The Calvary Boys of West Decatur will present a concert at Jaggard First United Methodist Church, 1801 Pleasant Valley Blvd., at 10:45am Sunday, May 17.

Food pantry available

The food pantry at Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue, is available for those in need. Distribution will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Fridays, May 15 and May 29, by appointment only. Call Deb at 814-207-8293.

Chicken barbecue offered

Tickets for a chicken barbecue are available from the Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue.

The meal will be available for pickup from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at the church.

The meal is $12 and includes half a chicken, two sides and a dinner roll. There are still some tickets available. Deadline to order May 15. For tickets, call Deb at 814-207-8293.

A baked goods sale will also be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with all proceeds benefiting the youth trip to National Youth Conference.

Depending on orders, some extra dinners may be available on the day of the sale.

Bible studies planned

Bible studies will be held at 6 p.m. Thursdays in the parlor at Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1200 Fourth Ave., Duncansville. The schedule includes: May 21 – John 7:37-39: Be open to the spirit; and May 28 – Matthew 28:16-20: Go, baptize and teach. All are welcome.

Game and craft day planned

All kids pre-K through fifth grade are invited for pizza, games and crafts from 4 to 6 p.m. May 16 at The Well Ministry Center. Call the church 814-201-2548 or email welladministration@thewellofbc.org for reservations so the church can prepare enough supplies for everyone. Adults are welcome to stay or drop off and pick up. ECLA Deacon Marsha Roscoe, spiritual director, coach and author of “Breathing in Christ: Experiencing Jesus in an Exhausting World,” will lead a guided, grace-filled morning designed to help participants slow down, reconnect and rediscover a more life-giving rhythm.

The free event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 30, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 850 Snydertown Road, Howard.
