The Tyrone Community Players will present “The Jungle Book,” a delightful play with a cast of over

30 local children ranging in age from 6 to 16.

Based on Disney’s 1967 animated film by Rudyard Kipling, the show features such Disney characters as Mowgli, Bagheera, Baloo, Kaa, Shere Khan, Colonel Hathi of the Elephants, and King Louie of the Monkeys. The main story teller is a girl named Shanti from the man village. As the story develops, we wonder if Bagheera and Baloo will help keep Mowgli safe from Kaa and Shere Khan? Will they get Mowgli to the main village safely?

The crew of “The Jungle Book” includes the director Sara Best, music director Kathy Fink, stage manager Nancy Sloss, lighting directors Phil Hoy and Richard Ward, and sound by Gib Lucas. The Tyrone Community Players produce “The Jungle Book” as part of a grant from the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies and the Pennsylvania Creative Industries Powered by Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.

Founded in 1985, the Tyrone Community Players have been providing Tyrone and the surrounding communities with quality theater for over 40 years. Since losing theater space in the Tyrone YMCA in 2002, the TCP have been working to renovate their new building in a small theater. In the meantime, they rent space to perform their shows at Saint Matthew’s Harkins Hall at 1105 Cameron Avenue in Tyrone.
