Free lunch offered
Free lunch will be offered from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Fourth Street Church of God, Fourth Street and 21st Avenue, Altoona. The menu includes chicken and dumplings, roasted vegetables, green bean casserole, dessert, punch and bottled water.
'The Hiding Place' on stage
The Iron Bridge Dinner Theater will stage "The Hiding Place" at Grace Baptist Church, 2308 Adams Ave., Tyrone.
The full dinner theatre is $48 and will be held at 4 p.m. Nov. 1 and Nov. 8. Tickets for the show only are $28 for the 2:30 p.m. matinee on Nov. 2 or the evening performances at 7 p.m. Nov. 6 and Nov. 7. Child and group rates are available.
"The Hiding Place" features a touching, heartfelt story of hope in the midst of despair, to life on stage. Thrust into a world of spies and espionage, Corrie ten Boom, together with her sister Betsie and her elderly father, Casper, heroically hide Jews from the Nazi invaders in their little town in Holland. In the midst of the ravages of WWII, the family learns that "joy runs deeper than despair." Live the story through the eyes of Corrie, a simple watchmaker turned hero in this award winning musical.
The cast includes Karen Knight as Corrie ten Boom, Karen Mogle is Betsie ten Boom and Jane Pilch will narrate as Elder Corrie ten Boom

Parishes to take up collection
In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica and elsewhere, Bishop Mark L. Bartchak has asked all parishes in the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown to take up special collections as soon as possible to benefit relief efforts. Father Marek Bzinkowski, Pastor of Holy Spirit Parish in Maggotty, Jamaica, just visited the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown this past summer, diocese spokesman Tony DeGol noted. Bzinkowski was the guest homilist at a special outdoor Mass in Loretto in observance of this Jubilee Year of Hope in the Catholic Church, during which he spoke about the enduring relationship between the two dioceses.
String ensemble to perform
The Wehnwood String Ensemble will be performing folk tunes from around the world at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 803 St. Augustine Road, Dysart This is a free concert
Patriotic rosary planned
A patriotic rosary ceremony and benediction will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, with Bishop Mark L. Bartchak and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas at St. Michael's the Archangel's Church, 301 Spruce St., Hollidaysburg. Refreshments will be served after the service.
The Rosary is spoken with writings from our Founding Fathers read after each rosary decade.
This service prays for discernment, wisdom and knowledge for all voters as we consider voting on Election Day.
Church to host fall fun fest
The Faith Baptist Church of Altoona will hold its Faith Fall Family Fun Fest from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, with activities and food for all ages. The event is free of charge.
Using oil paints, the Good News about Jesus Christ will be presented. Gift baskets will be awarded at the end of the event from a drawing.
The festivities will be held outside at the church, 315 40th St., Altoona. This event is rain or shine. Activities include a bungee run, an apple slingshot, plinko and a variety of other games and challenges.

Soup, chili sale set
The First Presbyterian Church of Cresson, Keystone Avenue and Third Street, will hold their annual soup and chili sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Healing Mass planned
Holy Spirit Ministry will hold a Healing Mass at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at St. Michael Church, Hollidayburg. Praise and worship starts at 6:30 p.m. Father Jeremy Mohler will be the main celebrant with Father David Dodd, T.O.R.; Father Brad Baldwin, T.O.R; Father Christopher Panagoplos, T.O.R; Father Justin Treon and Ukrainian Rite Father James Davidson will be con-celebrants.
There will be sacramental anointing, confessions and prayer ministry following Mass.

A free community lunch featuring a Thanksgiving dinner will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue.
Food pantry available
The food pantry at Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue, is available for those in need. Distribution will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14 and Nov. 21, by appointment only. Call Deb at 814-207-8293.
Calvary Boys in concert
The Calvary Boys from West Decatur will be in concert and leading the worship service at 9:15 a.m. Nov. 9, at Fairview United Methodist Church, 2214 Fifth St., Altoona.
Community lunch offered
St. Luke's Episcopal Church's community lunch will be served at noon Wednesday, Nov. 12, in the fellowship hall at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1407 Eighth Ave., right down the street from St Luke's. The meal is free; donations accepted.
Spaghetti dinner served
The Raystown Brethren Church, 129 Winterberry Lane, Saxton, will serve a spaghetti dinner from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8. The meal includes meatballs and spaghetti, garlic toast, a gourmet salad bar, dessert and beverage. Cost is by donation. Takeouts are available.
Pancake brunch fundraiser set
The Society of St. Vincent DePaul, St. Therese of The Child Jesus Conference will serve an all-you-can-eat pancake (gluten free also available) breakfast, along with two sausage, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and juice from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 16, in Father Kelly Hall, 25th Avenue and Fifth Street, Altoona.
Tickets are $8; children under 5 can eat for free. There will also be two gift board raffles valued at more than $300 each and a lottery tree raffle. The benefit is to raise money to continue helping the poor in our community.
Youth invited to 'Friendsgiving'
All students in 6th through 12th grade are invited to "Friendsgiving" from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Well Ministry Center, 605 Burns Ave., Altoona. The meal includes soups, bread and desserts, along with fun and fellowship. Friendsgiving is being hosted by the Hollidaysburg Youth Ministerium.

Holiday Boutique planned
Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 2700 Broad Ave., Altoona, will host a Holiday Boutique from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15. A pancake and sausage breakfast will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. There will be Paula Binns sweet rolls and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Photos with Santa will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event, sponsored by Loyal Christian Benefit Association – Branch 1198, will include collectibles and gifts, Sister Basil's Lollipops, books, crafts, bake shoppe, jewelry, a kids carnival, prize-a-rama, baskets and food.
