New Festival Benefits Carrolltown Park & Rec

If you love live music, check out Sunset Summerfest, a two-day music festival featuring nine Cambria County musical acts at the Carrolltown American Legion Park Aug. 15 and 16.
Presented by the Carrolltown Park and Recreation board, the event will also have craft vendors, homemade concessions, and a basket auction. Funds raised will be used for many park improvements and maintenance projects. Two-day passes are available for $15 on sale (see box) and single day tickets for $10 will be available at the gate.
Carrolltown Park and Recreation board member and long-time musician Tony Feighner has organized a stellar lineup of musicians. He's part of Stacy and the Rejects, which will perform both days.
The music begins at 5 p.m. Friday with The Frick Brothers, followed by Era X, and then county band Stacy and the Rejects from 8:30 to 10 p.m.
Saturday kicks off with music at noon with Altoona native Jimmy Mowery, who made it to the Top 24 on The Voice in 2019. Other musicians include guitarist John Miller, From the Top, a three-piece band from Ebensburg, Electric Swamp playing rock and roll, guitarist/vocalist Stacy Feighner and John Miller. Capping off Saturday night is Boomtown, a country band that plays a "mix of 90s country to today's country," said Boomtown's lead guitarist Chris Spaid. "We keep it upbeat and fun."
Joining Spaid are bassist Morgan Mikesic, lead singer Ken Gray, drummer Jake Horwath, and the newest member lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Megan Zolnosky. All members contribute vocals.
"We have talented vocalists so it's like going to a concert and getting to see your favorite bands all in one band," he said. The band's been together for 18-months.
The festival showcases local talents and shows the "sense of community these bands have."
A musician who has played in bands for 25 years, Spaid said the groups are supportive of one another and when one has an off night they can be found supporting another band.
"It used to be very competitive, but not anymore," said Spaid. "Everyone has been very kind."
Among the vendors attending are: Bandy Studio with art and photography; Baaa Sass Farm with goat milk products and candles; The Lemondade Shack, Kreations by Kerri, handmade jewelry and t-shirts; Lighted Shadow Box; crochet and quilted handmade items; crafted wood items, candles and more.
