Picnic at the Spring train excursions are offered by the Everett Railroad at 11:30 a.m. July 9, 12, 16, 23 and 30, and Aug. 6, 9 and 13. Participants are invited to pack a picnic basket and take the train to the Spring Dam in Roaring Spring. Tickets are $19 for adults, $17 for seniors, $14 for youth and free for those under 2 years of age. Don’t want to pack your own picnic? Boxed lunches are $14 and include a small sub, water, chips and a cookie in an Everett Railroad souvenir cooler bag. A Kids Uncrustable lunch is $10. The Cove Carnival will be held July 7-12 at Morrisons Cove Memorial Park, Martinsburg. Events include the Little Miss Morrisons Cove Pageant at 7 p.m. July 7 and the annual agriculture parade at 6 p.m. July 8. Wing night is July 9 with entertainment by Matt Wagner at 7 p.m.

Fireworks swim party, $5 admission, will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m., with the fireworks show at 10 p.m. Garden tractor pulls will be held at 6 p.m July 10. Half-price wristbands will be available to the first 100 people on July 11, with entertainment by Past Tymes at 7 p.m. The Cove Talent Show will be held at 7 p.m. July 12. A fireworks swim party, $5 admission, will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. Fireworks will begin at 10 p.m. Midway rides, games and food will be open daily at 6 p.m.

The Blacksmith Shop at Greenwood Furnace is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday through Aug. 29. Visitors can learn about the village, built around an inferno, through displays on Greenwood Furnace and ironmaking. Greenwood Furnace is at 15795 Greenwood Road, Huntingdon.

Farmers Markets in Bedford are open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays in the Bedford Squares. The markets feature flowers, baked goods, veggies and more.

The Live After 5 concert series, presented by the Downtown State College Improvement District, will continue each Wednesday through Aug. 27. The series brings the heart of downtown alive every Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza.

This free, family-friendly event showcases the best in regional musical talent and encourages the community to experience the unique charm of Downtown State College.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early or stay late to enjoy the vibrant dining scene, explore local shops and experience the rich arts and culture that define Downtown State College.

The Community Arts Center of Cambria County will host the 2025 juried exhibition of the Allied Artists of Johnstown Summer Show through Friday, July 25, in the Goldhaber-Fend Fine Arts Center gallery, with open admission to the public, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. A $5 donation is suggested.

Baker Mansion Liberty Tea will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at the Baker Mansion History Museum. The event will feature a special presentation by Amy Wilson on “Women in Wartime.” Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased online at www.blairhistory.org/events or by calling the Baker Mansion at 814-942-3916.

The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts will be held July 9-13 in downtown State College and adjacent to the Penn State University Park campus. The sidewalk sale and exhibition is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 10-12 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 13. There will be live entertainment, children’s activities, vendors, art and more. Rock the Block will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 10, in downtown Bedford. There will be food, beer, musical entertainment by Ganister, a kids activity corner, instant tickets, 50/50 raffle and more. Admission is free. IDs required to purchase beer. Those attending should bring a lawn chair for seating. Raindate is Sept. 4.

Magical Melodies, an evening of outdoor family fun, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at Cresson Lake Playhouse. This event will have everyone singing along with a cast of performers on a musical trip through Disney melodies, modern chart-toppers and timeless classics. The cost is by donation.

Whether your kids love pirates, superheroes, animals or adventure, they’ll find something to cheer for. Kids of all ages are invited to dress up as your favorite princess or movie character.

The show will be held outdoors behind the Cresson Lake Barn Theatre, so bring picnic blankets and lawn chairs for a cozy, relaxed evening. The concession stand will be open.

There will be face painting, a bubble station and hair tinsel — all available by “pay-what-you-wish” donations. The venue is cash only.

The Cresson Lake Barn Theatre is at 279 Shapiro Road, Loretto. Rain date is Friday, July 11.

Pistol Peg and the Beer Kegs will take the stage from 5 to 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 11, at the Jaffa Shrine Center, as part of the Rockin’ the Yard concert series. Grammy award winner Rosanne Cash will appear with her musician-husband John Leventhal at 8 p.m. July 11 at The State Theatre, 130 W. College Ave., State College. Tickets are cost $73 (includes fee) or $78 day of show. Cash is the daughter of acclaimed singer Johnny Cash and his first wife, Vivian. She won four Grammy’s and has been nominated for 11 more. “Help Wanted” a comedy about the search for security, true love or at least a decent, part time job, will be presented by the Off Pitt Street Theatre Co., 110 W. Pitt St., Bedford. Show times are 7 p.m. July 11, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. July 12. Tickets are available at the door and cost $15 for adults and $10 for senior citizens. Cash Bash will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at the Newburg Fire Association, 2805 Washington Ave., Altoona. Cost is $50 and includes dinner and drinks for two and one entry into the drawing. Need not be present to win. The meal is available for eat-in only. The show features Frankie and the Flashbacks! The show brings back every major hit from every major artist from 1956 to 1963. This 5-piece band has an array of concerts behind them and they have all collectively been performing for 30 years.

History Speaks: A BCHS Lecture Series will feature “The Story of Allegheny Furnace: Iron Making at the Elias Baker Estate” with Michael Farrow. The event will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at the Railroaders Memorial Museum. Admission is free and open to the public; donations are welcome. Parking opens at 8 p.m. and sky watches officially conclude by 10 p.m. but may last longer if viewing conditions are ideal and Starlight Astronomy Club members stay to host.

Jay T. Vonada Quartet will perform at Pine Grove Hall, 101 E. Pine Grove Road, Pine Grove Mills from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 31. The group includes Vonada on trombone, Clay Wulbrecht, keyboard; Bob Hart, bass; and Kevin Lowe, drums.

Country musician Gary Burk lll will entertain the audience Aug. 20 concert at the Newburg Volunteer Fire Department..Burk, of Butler, is embarking on a tour in remembrance of Corey Comperatore, the firefighter killed at the July 13 rally for then-presidential candidate Donald Trump in Butler. Doors open at 2 p.m. and the first band, Jack Wilder, will take the stage at 5 p.m. Burk will headline the show at 8 p.m., wrapping up at 10 a.m.

Tickets are $20 for ages 13 and older. Children 12 years old and younger will be admitted free of charge. The fire department will have their popular wings available for sale, along with other food and beverages.

All proceeds from this event benefit the Newburg Volunteer Fire department.

Burk has opened for country music stars such as Alabama, Travis Tritt and more.
