Food distribution planned
The food pantry at Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue, will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, and Friday, Feb. 21. The food is available to those in need by appointment only. Call Deb at 814-946-0170.
Free lunch offered
n Second Avenue Global Methodist Church, 130 2nd Ave-Altoona, will hold a free luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15. All are welcome. Dine in or take out available.
n Providence Presbyterian Church, 2401 Broad Ave., Altoona, will serve a free lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15. The meal will include a meatball sandwich, a variety of homemade soups, fruit and a dessert. The meal will be held in the social hall.
Chicken, biscuit dinner available
St. Mark’s Episcopal Church is holding a take-out dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday Feb. 22, at its Parish Hall, 335 Locust St., downtown Johnstown.
Each meal includes chicken and biscuits, mashed potatoes, strawberry-spinach salad and cake.
Cost is $10 per meal; take-out only.

Motivational group to gather
The Motivational Mug group will meet at 11:10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, in the Family Life Center at Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church. All are invited to attend and enjoy coffee, conversations and a Super Bowl-themed celebration. Those attending are encouraged to wear your favorite team’s gear and bring your game-day spirit. Wild game feast set
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday,
Feb. 17, for the Altoona Alliance Church’s 18th annual Wild Game Feast. The event will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 15. Doors open at 4 p.m. This event will include a meal of various wild game meats (including several bear dishes), as well as some traditional foods.
There will be a time set aside to honor veterans. Many door prizes will be given out, including a crossbow and gun. Various outdoor vendors will be set up for people to visit. A new addition this year will be three opportunities for guests to enter a drawing for a guided coyote hunt for one, a guided rabbit hunt for two with award winning beagles, and a drawing for an amazing homemade bear cake.
The speaker for the night will be Jim “the bearman” Vansteelhouse from Michigan. Vansteelhouse got his nickname from and will be speaking about a near fatal encounter with a bear.
Tickets are $20 a person and will be available at the Altoona Alliance Church beginning Feb. 17.
Vansteelhouse and his wife Elizabeth will be speaking on “Navigating the rough waters of marriage” during the morning service Sunday, March 16, at the church.
Night of worship set
Holy Spirit Ministry will hold a night of worship at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at St. Michael Church, Hollidaysburg. Testimony will be given by Aurora Ressler on Finding Purpose through Pain. There will be praise and worship music and a prayer ministry will follow the testimony.
Aurandt Lectures planned
Christ Reformed Church, 502 Main Street, Alexandria, will host the third annual Aurandt Lectures on Theology. At 9 a.m. Saturday, March 22, the Doctrine of Creation will be discussed. How should a Christian today understand the accounts of God’s creating the world in Genesis 1-3? The Rev. Daniel Arter, the Rev. Chris Osterbrock, the Rev. Dr. Daniel Stegeman and the Rev. Angelo O. Valle will come together to provide insight on answering the questions of faith and creation.

Free soup program continues
First Presbyterian Church, Penn and Walnut streets, will host the Hollidaysburg Free Soup Program from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15.
There is no charge; offerings will be accepted. Cancellations will be announced on the websites of Lightner Radio at Lightnercommunications.com or 7 Mountains Media.
The program continues through March according to the following schedule: Feb. 22 and
March 1, First Presbyterian Church, Penn and Walnut streets; March 8, March 15 and March 22, St. Michael Catholic Church, Montgomery and Spruce streets.
All churches will offer soup, bread and butter, desserts, tea, coffee and water.
This program is a mission of the churches in Hollidaysburg. It is not restricted to church members, but is open to everyone, including those in financial need and those in need of christian fellowship.
Quilting ministry offered
Zion Lutheran Church invites women of all ages to attend Stitch and Sew in Zion’s Fellowship Hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays. No experience is required to help create quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Bring a bagged lunch, if you’d like. For more information, call the church office at 814-695-0091.
Soup orders accepted
The Greenwood United Methodist Church is holding a soup sale, with orders to be picked up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at the church fellowship hall, 1505 E. Walton Ave, Altoona.
Soups are $9 a quart and include chicken noodle and vegetable beef.
