50 years ago: 1974
Because of the truckers' strike, 81 service station dealers of Blair County formed the Blair County Gasoline Dealers Association, Frank Rabits president. Truck strikers had pickets at the Gulf, Amoco, Arco, Texaco and British Petroleum (BP) gasoline terminals.
25 years ago: 1999
About 20 victims of the December natural gas explosion in Lakemont had hired a Philadelphia attorney named Robert Kosseff to represent them against Peoples Natural Gas Co. Damage was estimated at over $1 million.
10 years ago: 2014
The Local Emergency Planning Committee, Bob Gutchall chairman, was designing computerized maps that showed all sites within 10 miles of Blair County that housed or used hazardous chemicals and materials, as required by a state law called Act 165.
