Altoona Area School officials defended the book "Catcher in the Rye," which was used in a class, from some Altoona residents who wanted it banned as being pornographic. Assistant Superintendent Ardell Feeley answered "he did and enjoyed it" when asked if he would want his son to read it.
25 years ago: 1999
The Station Mall on 9th Avenue and 17th Street, owned by Landmark Properties of Pittsburgh, had 22 tenants still remaining, with about 11 vacancies and was making a major effort to fill the empty storefronts.
10 years ago: 2014
A Brown Swiss Cow owned by State Sen. John H. Eichelberger Jr., R-Blair, won the Legislative Dairy Showmanship Contest at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg.
