Playing at the Blair Cinema in Hollidaysburg was "Maurie," the story of St. Francis College basketball player Maurice Stokes, starring Bernie Casey, who actually played in the NBA, and Bo Svenson. Stokes died in 1970. The movie won an NAACP Image award.
25 years ago: 1998
Hollidaysburg Catholic School, Kathleen A. Moran teacher, received a $484 MAC Grant from McDonald's to study waterways pollution.
10 years ago: 2013
Two-term Hollidaysburg Mayor Joseph Dodson lost in the primary for another term as mayor, but won a seat on borough council with write-in votes.
