50 years ago: Nov. 8, 1973

The newly formed Penn State Altoona Cougar Marching Band, John Monti director, was one of nine bands in the Altoona Campus Homecoming Parade that was using a Walt Disney theme for its floats, including Pinocchio, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, Peter Pan and many others.

25 years ago: Nov. 8, 1998

Harvey N. Hyle Jr., 81, Hollidaysburg, who became Blair County's first juvenile parole and probation officer in 1948, holding the position until he retired in 1982, died Nov. 6. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and helped found Adelphoi Village in Lakemont.

10 years ago: Nov. 8, 2013

Operation S.O.S., founded by Gary Clare of Duncansville 10 years before to send packages to military personnel stationed far from home, had shipped over 3,300 boxes using as many as 300 volunteers.
