The Altoona Choral Society, Jack Shaffer directing, was to present its Christmas concert, Handel's Messiah, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Ruth Sharpless organist. The Rev. Paul Turnbull was to play a medley of carols on the organ preceding Messiah.

The Allegheny Mountain Convention and Visitors Bureau, Deb Pensyl-Reasy head of sales, was sponsoring a four-day Keystone Seniors Convention in Altoona for senior citizens to visit most of the local sites of interest. They would find their own lodging if staying overnight.

Three Begin With Us Child Care and Preschool locations in Altoona were to share in a $180,000 Healthy and Green grant from the state Department of Welfare with 39 total recipients from around the state to teach children from 6 weeks to 6 years about the natural world and to reduce environmental health hazards in their facilities.
