The Horseshoe Curve Festival Committee, Nevin Nederlander promoter, announced that the festival would return the next year for the 4th time. The Altoona Recreation Commission, Alto Cadets Marching Band, Downtown Merchants and Blair County Tourism Bureau were sponsors.
25 years ago: 1998
After a 10-year legal battle with the owners of the bankrupt Penn Central Railroad, about 34 1890s-era photographs taken by Pennsylvania Railroad photographer William H. Rau went on display at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Altoona.
10 years ago: 2013
Four new firefighters were sworn in for the Altoona City Fire Department during ceremonies at City Hall: Shawn Daughenbaugh, Brandon Beers, Christopher DeStefano and Jonathan Ravel. All four had been volunteers at other municipalities. Altoona was mandated to have 62 firefighters.
