Raymond G. Garvin was elected president and David Seidel vice-president of the newly formed Railroaders Memorial Museum Inc., whose goal was to find, fund and run a railroad museum for the citizens of Blair County.

25 years ago: Oct. 31, 1998

Child Advocates of Blair County was hosting a "Making a House a Home" decorator showcase at Penn Farm Estates in Hollidaysburg over two days, featuring a home decorated by local designers and furnished by local businesses, the $5 admission benefiting Child Advocates.

Pennsylvania First Lady Susan Corbett visited the Altoona Mirror to talk about an anti-school dropout program for students called "Opening Doors." She was a former English teacher and said 17.4% of Pa. students dropped out of school before graduating.
