Robert E. Overberger of the new Altoona Area Transportation Study Commission said that a study found a dramatic loss in passengers in the city's transit system in favor of the automobile, which meant that the highway system would be the main focus of the commission.

Blair County kicked off Red Ribbon Week against drugs at the Logan Valley Mall with the following mascots present: Hopper the Shopper, McGruff the Crime Dog, Vince and Larry, the Red Lobster, the Nittany Lion, the Subway Sub and the Bagel Man.
