Mayor William C. Stouffer named Oct. 28 as UNICEF Day in Altoona with trick or treaters collecting money for the United Nations Children's Emergency Fund.

25 years ago:1998

The Altoona Drug and Crime Commission, Melvin E. Ellis member, said that the number of criminal indictments in Blair County were on track to reach 2,000, which would be a new record. The previous year's total was 1,864.

10 years ago: 2013

Joel Myers, who founded AccuWeather in State College 51 years ago, donated

$2 million to Penn State for the creation of the Joel N. Myers Weather Center. The company reached about one billion people a day with its weather forecasts.
