Cresson Lake Playhouse presents "Sylvia," a play about a couple and a stray dog, named Sylvia, that upends their longtime marriage, at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 5-9 and 2 p.m. Sept. 10, at the Cresson Lake Barn Theatre at 279 Shapiro Road in Loretto.

Directed by Tom Lizska of Altoona, the cast includes Steve Guice of Altoona as Greg and Nadine Miller of Hastings as Kate with CLP newcomer and Altoona native Courtney Fowler, as the street-smart dog in the title role. Also appearing is Jordan Miller.

Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan after twenty-two years of child-raising in the suburbs. Greg's career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate's career, as a public-school English teacher, is beginning to offer her more opportunities. Greg brings home a dog he found in the park--or that has found him--bearing only the name "Sylvia" on her name tag. A street-smart mixture of Lab and poodle, Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. The marriage is put in serious jeopardy and a series of hilarious and touching complications ensue.
