Free Festival planned for Sunday
Ss. Peter & Paul Festival will be held from noon to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 9. The church and festival grounds are at 143 Church Drive, just off of Munster Road, Route 164, in Portage Township.
The entertainment is free and festivalgoers are invited to bring chairs or blankets for seating. Entertainment includes That Oldees Band from noon to 3 p.m., featuring hit songs from past decades; Full Kilt from 4 to 7:30 p.m., featuring Celtic rock.
Food items include roast pork sandwiches, BBQ chicken, halushki, halupki, pirohi, sloppy joes, kielbasa, hot dogs and hot sausage, along with wing dings and french fries.
Funnel cakes, ice cream and a bake sale with homemade gobs and a variety of baked goods, candy apples and other items will also be ongoing.
Soda, bottled water, beer and wine coolers will be available.
The event will also feature a basket raffle, bingo, cash raffle and other games of chance. There will be children's games with prizes and a stuffed animal booth, as well.
The church building is open throughout the afternoon. A brief guided tour is offered at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to explain the icons and features of the beliefs and practices of the Byzantine Catholic Church.

Free lunch available
Free lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue, Altoona. Everyone is welcome to dine in or take out. Lunch will include hamburgers, macaroni salad and dessert.
Clothing, food donations accepted
Donations of clothing and non-perishable foods will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, at Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren at 1028 Penn St. (Route 36). The church parking lot will serve as a collection site for the American Rescue Workers. You can drop off donations and receive a tax receipt.
Church in the park, picnic set
Altoona Restoration Church of God will host its Church In The Park and Picnic at 11 a.m. July 9 at Legion Park, Hollidaysburg, large pavilion No. 2. The church service will include music and the sermon by Pastor Steve Brumbaugh. The picnic will include hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, drinks and picnic side dishes and desserts.
An auction of wrapped gifts will be available for everyone to bid on along with raffle basket chances. Two sets of four Curve tickets with a parking pass will be available at the auction along with door prizes.
The public is invited.
Eucharistic procession set
The Johnstown Eucharistic procession will be held Sunday, July 9, at St. John Gualbert Cathedral. The Mass begins at 5 p.m. followed by the Eucharistic procession to Central Park. A reception will be held after the event. For more information, visit stjohngualbert.org or call 814-536-0117.
Holy Spirit Ministry meets
Holy Spirit Ministry will meet for praise and worship from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at St. Michael Church, Hollidaysburg. Guest speaker is Father Mike Pleva on "Evangelization and Renewed Conversion." There will be Eucharistic Adoration. Prayer ministry is available and refreshments will be served.
Ministry provides shoes for children in need
Juniata United Methodist Church Angel Feet Ministry provides service to children birth to 9th grade. The ministry will provide sneakers, socks and a new book to children visiting the program. Eligibility is based on Medical Assistance, CHIP or referral to the ministry. Parents may call for an appointment and must accompany their child to the shoe bank. Children may visit the shoe bank at six-month intervals. Availability of shoes is dependent on contributions and inventory. Families living in southern Blair County -- Roaring Spring, Claysburg, Martinsburg and East Freedom -- may call and arrange for shoes to be picked up at the Roaring Spring Community Library -- JUMC Angel Feet Ministry Nook. JUMC Angel Feet Ministry has been serving the Blair County community for 10 years.

Churches host Bible school
-- Vacation Bible School will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 10-14 at Mountaindale Baptist Church, 687 Mountaindale Road, Fallentimber. Classes will be available for ages 3 to adult. The theme is Rocky Railway. Each night features crafts, activities, Bible lessons and more. All are welcome.
-- Calvary United Methodist Church, 167 Blue Ball Road, West Decatur, will hold a one-day community Bible school from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 11. "Island Adventures" is geared toward children from nursery through sixth grade. There will be crafts, games and snacks. Lunch will also be provided.
-- Bible school for children ages 5 to 12 will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. July 10-14 at the Juniata Church of the Brethren, 306 N. Ninth Ave. The theme is "Jesus, My Savior and Friend." There will be games, Bible lessons, missionary stories, songs, snacks and a take home surprise bag featured each day. Registration is due by July 8 and can be made by calling 814-942-9809. When registering, provide the student's name, age, parent or guardian, address and phone number. Parents and guardians are welcome to stay for the Bible school.

-- Vacation Bible school will be held from 6 to 8:45 p.m. July 10-14 at the Faith Baptist Church of Altoona. Classes will range from nursery for the infants through adults. Everyone is welcome. Children and youth will meet from 6-8:45 p.m., beginning with a free dinner served at 6 p.m.; classes begin at 6:30 p.m. Children ages 3 through grade 6 are invited to "Kingdom Quest" to study the armor of God. Youth from 7th to 12th grade will meet for a time of fun, fellowship, games and studying the armor of God. The adult class will be held each evening from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. to study "Our Spiritual Warfare: God's Victorious Armor" taught by Pastor Gary G. Dull.

Combined worship service set
The Jaggard First and East End churches will hold a combined Barber Shop-style worship service featuring the Altoona Horseshoe Chorus at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 16, at Jaggard First United Methodist Church, 1810 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona.
Spaghetti dinner offered
A spaghetti dinner will be served by the Juniata United Methodist Church, 808 N. Fourth St., Altoona, from 4 to 7 p.m. July 15. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children 3-12 years old and children under 3 can eat for free. Eat in or take out is available for the dinner of spaghetti, salad, rolls, beverage and dessert.

Community yard sale planned
Community yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at the Second Avenue Church, 130 Second Ave., Altoona. Vendors are welcome; set up begins at 7 a.m. Cost to rent a table is $20. Reservations can be made by 814-943-2072. Deadline to reserve a table is July 29.
Christmas in July features nativity
Christmas in July will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 14, at the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren, 1028 Penn St., Hollidaysburg.
The event is open to the public and will include a nativity with live animals, concert by the Brethren Brass, the children's Tumble Bus and additional entertainment. Food and Christmas decorations will be available for sale, and the SERRV (Fair Trade) Store will have items available for purchase.

Canopies will be available for shade and some chairs will be provided. Those attending are urged to bring chairs and/or blankets for seating.
