50 years ago: July 13, 1973
Re-paving the streets in downtown Altoona revealed the old cobblestones, also called Belgian blocks, which were laid over 60 years before.
25 years ago: July 13, 1998
The Academy of Sacred Music, Judy Fischer executive director and co-founder, made up of Jewish, Protestant and Catholic singers, was in Altoona performing at various churches. It promoted sharing, scholarship and teaching of religious music.
10 years ago: July 13, 2013
A bike path project that connected Penn State Altoona with downtown Altoona received the 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania Community Transportation Excellence Award, shared by the Campus, Altoona and PennDOT. The path was also to be used for walking.
