50 years ago: June 29, 1973

Twenty-four teachers from Appalachia Intermediate Unit gathered at Penn State Altoona to hold a two-week workshop on Aerospace Science Education with subjects like space flights, astronomy and rocketry. Each teacher was given an airplane ride and opportunity to handle the plane in flight.

25 years ago: June 29, 1998

The AAA Blair County Motor Club, Colson E. Jones chairman, was in talks with an eight-county AAA club about a possible merger. Blair was one of only five single-county AAA clubs in the state.

10 years ago: June 29, 2013

Mateen Johnson, who was associated with a drug case called Operation Last Call, was sentenced to prison by Blair County Judge Elizabeth Doyle. He had been apprehended after winning $2,500 in blackjack at the Philadelphia Park Racetrack and Casino.
