Music and history event set
A celebration of history and music will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 27, at the historic Keller Church, 8162 Fox Run Road, Williamsburg. The event will include a patriotic celebration and organ rededication. There will be patriotic music, hymn sing, pump organ rededication, history discussion and a salute to church members who perished in battle and refreshments.
Food box distribution set
Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren Food Ministry, 2800 Union Ave., Altoona, will host the food box pick up from 9:30 a.m. to noon Friday, May 12, and Friday, May 19. For more information or to make an appointment, call the pantry at 814-207-8293. First time families are welcome to sign up.
Bible reading marathon open to all
Way of Truth Ministries, Altoona, in partnership with Seedline International, will sponsor the second annual Pennsylvania Bible Reading Marathon on the steps of the Capitol in Harrisburg from 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20, through 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 24.
The 90-hour Bible reading marathon will begin with an opening ceremony and prayers. The Bible will then be read straight through, 24-hours-a-day from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21.
Anyone interested in reading is welcome. Time slots are given in 15-minute increments. It is suggested that readers sign up in advance online at capitolbrm.org.
Those taking part in the events will be praying for spiritual awakening for the state and nation.

Novena to be celebrated
The fifth novena of 2023 to Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Therese offered by the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Loretto will open on Monday, May 22, and end on Tuesday, May 30.
The chapel is open and all are invited to attend Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament at 4 p.m. on Sundays.

Spring concert
A spring concert will be presented by Paul D. Mills at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at St. John's Reformed Church of Loysburg. The concert is free and open to the public; an offering will be accepted to help offset his travel costs.
Mills is a pianist, singer and song writer who has toured nationally and internationally with the Continental Singers. He has acted and assisted with music direction at Sight & Sound in Lancaster, recently overseeing "Esther" as music producer.
He has written and directed several off-Broadway series and is the founder and executive director of New Face Theatre, New York. He leads music in his home church, Perryville Bible Church in Wakefield, Rhode Island, and writes for Bible Truth Music.
Mills is a personal friend of Lorie and Bruce LaSala, members of St. John's.
Free instrumental camp offered
Wehnwood United Methodist Church is sponsoring a free instrumental "Make A Joyful Noise Music Camp" from 6 to 8:30 p.m. June 18-23. Students who have played an instrument for one year are eligible. Plant, seed and flower garden swap set
A plant, seed and flower garden swap will be held from 9 a.m. to noon May 20 in the parking lot across from Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1200 Fourth Ave., Duncansville.
The event will be held rain or shine. Everyone is invited to bring plants, flowers and seeds to swap. Those who don't have anything to swap are also invited to pick out something new to take home.
Neighborhood parking lot sale scheduled
The Women's Guild of St. John's Reformed Church, 906 Maple Ave., Hollidaysburg, is sponsoring a neighborhood parking lot sale in the church parking lot, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20. A light lunch and bake sale will be available. Additional spaces are accessible for those wishing to have a space for their own sale. Indoor yard sale planned
An indoor yard sale will be held at Mardorf United Methodist Church, 3429 Juniata Gap Road, Altoona, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, May 20. Craftsmen may rent tables for $20 each. For more information or to rent a table, contact Lillian at 814-232-7966.
Night of worship set
Holy Spirit Ministry Night of Worship will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, at St. Michael Church, Hollidaysburg. Praise and worship and a witness talk by Wally Zapotoczny will be featured. All are welcome.
Bibles, Christian books sought
New or used Bibles, Christian books and materials are being collected to send to Love Packages, a ministry with locations in Illinois and Alabama, that ships Christian materials to the mission fields of the world and into the hands of the people.
Grace Bible Church, 164 Laurel Lane, Hollidaysburg, is a drop off location for these materials that are then sorted, packaged and shipped to the Illinois location. Call the church office at 814-695-4060 for drop off times or more information.
Donations can include new and used Bibles, Sunday school materials (adult and children), CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays (music, movies, teaching from well-known speakers Billy Graham, Chuck Swindoll, etc.), children's puppets, nativity sets, Bible games, Bible puzzles, flannelgraph materials, etc., along with other new or used Christian materials.

These materials will be shipped to destinations around the world in 20-ton ocean going containers. A sea container costs about $5,000 to ship and donations toward shipping costs will also be accepted.
The collection of items is now underway and is an ongoing ministry of the church.
21 Club members dinner set
St. Mark's of Altoona 21 Club members are invited to a free spaghetti dinner from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. May 21. This will be the final event of the season and is open to those who participated in the club. For more information, call Sally Young at 814-502-9059.
Clothing giveaways planned
– Clothing giveaway will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 408 N. Sixth St. There are lots of men's, women's and children's clothing. Spring and winter coats are also available.
– Grace's Closet at Grace Lutheran Church, 1114 N. Cambria St., Bellwood, will host a clothing giveaway from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 13. Spring and summer clothing is available. Masks are optional. For more information, call the church at 814-742-7501 or 814-742-7416.
Chorale to present concert
The Blair Concert Chorale will perform the third concert of the 2022-23 season at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, May 13, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 14th Street and 12th Avenue, Altoona. The Glory encompasses many genres of music. Highlighting the concert is a medley of songs from the Broadway musical "Rent."
Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students, and are available at Thompson Pharmacies (Chestnut Avenue and Hollidaysburg), through EVENTBRITE, from any Chorale member and at the door. Tickets for the concert are also available by emailing manager@blairconcertchorale.org.
Free lunches offered
– Providence Presbyterian Church, 2401 Broad Ave., Altoona, will hold a free lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 20. The lunch will include a hot dog on a bun, bowl of soup, a dessert and fruit. The doors to the church will be open toe at in the social hall. Bag lunches will also be available in the church's parking lot for drive-thru and walk ups while supplies last.

Speakers series continues
Howard Ermin will be the speaker at noon June 7 at Wehnwood United Methodist Church. Ermin is the state advocate for Americans with Disabilities Act.
Rep. Lou Schmitt will address the topic of protecting yourself from Elder Fraud and Financial Exploitation during the July meeting; the date is not yet set.
The meetings are free and open to the public. A light lunch will be served.
Ladies tea planned
East End United Methodist Church will hold a Ladies Tea at 6 p.m. Friday, May 12. The event will be held at the church, 405 E. Hudson Ave., Altoona. All ladies are invited; bring a friend. Reservations can be made by calling Sue Epple at 814 505-4226.
Yard/bake sale planned
A community yard sale/bake sale will be held at Lakemont United Methodist Church, 340 Lotz Ave., Altoona, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 10.
