The Tri-State Discount Center store at
208 E. Howard Ave. declared bankruptcy and was preparing a going out of business sale to start June 7 and last until the store was sold out.

Kirsten Kinzer, a summer intern for Partners in Neighborhood Revitalization, was to teach children in the Knickerbocker neighborhood apartments about their history, Altoona's only row house community. Knickerbocker residents recently told City Council they needed new sidewalks and curbs.

U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania visited the Altoona Mirror to talk about America's financial troubles, saying if the excessive spending did not stop, the U.S. would end up like the country of Greece, which reached unemployment of 58% for ages 25 and less.
