Caroline Eckels, retired principal of Fairview and Keystone elementary schools, Marjan Stevens, retired principal of Adams and Curtin elementary schools, and Eleanor Kirkham, retired principal of Greenwood, East End and Stevens elementary schools, were honored by the Altoona Area School District with a banquet at the Blairmont Club.
25 years ago: May 24, 1998
In boys high school volleyball play, Altoona Area beat Bishop Guilfoyle to win the District 6 championship and advance to the state regionals.

Tyrone Area elementary schools used a $15,000 Albemarie Corp. grant to grow fruits and vegetables as part of the American Heart Association Plant Day celebration. The crops were to be harvested after summer break.
