The Altoona Area Chamber of Commerce, Robert W. Boyer president, created a committee "Altoona Has Hustle" with Leonard B. Whiting as chairman. The term came from part of an ad the Altoona Redevelopment Authority put in the Wall Street Journal.

A survey by the West Drug Task Force, headed by Special Agent Randy Feathers and made up of police from Blair, Clearfield and Mifflin counties, showed drug use in Blair County was up, drug use by high school students was up and hospital treatment of drug cases was up.

Wayne Delozier of Altoona had a reunion with Robert Stuller of Washington State after they had not seen each other for 44 years, since they served together in Vietnam. In other veterans news, Lt. Col. Kang Moon Ho, South Korean Marine Corps defense attache from Washington, was in Cambria County to honor Korean War veterans.
