Women's Bible study is Saturday
Women's Bible study will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at Altoona First Southern Baptist Church, 903 N. Fourth St., Altoona.
The study will feature the lesson, "Bundle of Emotions," and will be led by Heather Miller. It will focus on scripture readings and on how our hearts can make us feel many different ways.
Light snacks will be served; those attending are welcome to bring snacks to share.
Ladies tea planned
The East End United Methodist Church will hold a Ladies Tea at 6 p.m. Friday May 12. The event will be held at the church, 405 East Hudson Ave., Altoona. All Ladies are invited; bring a friend. Reservations can be made by calling Sue Epple at 814 505-4226.
Holy Spirit Ministry to meet
Holy Spirit Ministry will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, at St. Michael Church, Hollidaysburg, for a night of worship and eucharistic adoration. Father Mike Pleva will speak on "My vocation story and the Eucharist."
National Day of Prayer celebrated
The 72nd Annual National Day of Prayer event will be held at noon Thursday, May 4, at Legion Park, Hollidaysburg.
The Way of Truth Ministries is sponsoring the Blair County event, which will be held on the lawn at the park, North Juniata Street, Hollidaysburg.
The theme this year is "Pray Fervently in Righteousness and Avail Much" taken from James 5:16b. The keynote speaker will be City Councilman Dave Butterbaugh and several local pastors will lead prayers for America. All are invited to attend. Bring chairs or blankets for seating. Praise and worship service set
Praise, worship and a witness talk by Deacon Gene Neral will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, May 5, at St. Aloysius Church, 7911 Admiral Peary Highway, Cresson. Confessions will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Healing Mass with the Rev. Julio Rivero, T.O.R., at 7 p.m.
Spring Spiritual Renewal services planned
The Claysburg Church of the Brethren will host Spring Spiritual renewal services April 30-May 3.
The series will focus on Lessons from the Life of David. Guest speaker is the Rev. David Ulm, a second-career pastor who has served the Woodbury Church of the Brethren for the past eight years. Ulm will preach at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, April 30, and at 7 p.m. May 1-3. Topics, in order of the services, include "Confronting Giants" 1 Samuel 17:1-11; "After Goliath: Triumphs, Trials & Training" 1 Samuel 18-24; "David & Bathsheba: A Portrait of Sin" 2 Samuel 11:1-27; "David & Mephibosheth: A Portrait of Grace" 2 Samuel 9:1-13; and "You Belong at the Table" 1 Corinthians 10:14-17.
There will be special music each night. The public is invited.
New Journey to hold concert
New Journey will present a gospel concert at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 30, at the Smith Corner Independent Mennonite Church, 3.1 miles west of East Freedom on Route 164. An offering will be accepted for the group. All are welcome.
Pancake breakfast to be served
St. John's Reformed Church, 906 Maple Ave., Hollidaysburg, will hold its annual Spring Pancake, Bacon & Sausage Breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 29, at the church. Tickets are available at the door and cost $8 for adults, $5 for youth ages 3-12 and free to children under 3 years of age. The meal includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, bacon and sausage, juice, coffee, tea or milk.
Free lunch
Members of Circle of Hope at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Altoona, are beginning a new program to serve take-out bag lunches on months when there are five Saturdays. The first lunch will be offered at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 29. Lunches will be distributed while supplies last. All are welcome to pick up lunches from the alley at 14th Street between 11th and 12th avenues. The menu includes chili, chips, fruit cup and dessert.
Ladies Spring Encounter planned
The Ladies/Teens Spring Encounter will be held from
9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at Faith Assembly of God, 4870 Cove Mountain Road, Roaring Spring. Bonnie Floyd will speak on "Forgiven -- Give God Something to Work With."
Advance tickets are $22 and can be purchased at the Roaring Spring True Value Department Store, Thompson Pharmacy in Hollidaysburg and Juniata, Everett Flower Shop and Cove Printing and Design -- Woodbury.
Tickets at the door will be $25. No lunch will be available this year.

Annual Red Mass/Law Day set
Saint Francis University will host its 41st Annual Red Mass/Law Day on Friday, April 28, on its Loretto campus. Bishop Mark L. Bartchak will serve as celebrant, and Father Jonathan St. Andre, T.O.R., will deliver the homily. Noel J. Francisco, 47th Solicitor General of the United States, will give the keynote address at the Law Day Lunch.
Red Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Chapel, followed by lunch at the John F. Kennedy Student Center.

Concert features Hollidaysburg natives
Hollidaysburg natives James White and Robert Long, who have been friends and musical collaborators for more than 40 years, will present a recital at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Lakemont at 7 p.m. Friday, April 28. The program will include sacred works as well as musings about baseball. The centerpiece of their musical offering will be the premier of "Let's Marry Said The Cherry," a setting of whimsical poems by N. M. Bodecker with music by Bruce Trinkley (Professor Emeritus of Music Pennsylvania State University). The concert is free and open to the public.
Cumberland to mark National Day of Prayer
A three-part series of events will be held in Cumberland, Md., to mark the region's participation in the National Day of Prayer. A prayer rally will be held at 6:30 p.m. May 3 at Central Assembly of God Church, Bedford Road, Cumberland. At 8 a.m. May 4, a breakfast will be held at the Ali Ghan Shrine Club. Tickets may be purchased by calling 301-707-2190. An outdoor observance will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cumberland's City Hall, 57 N. Liberty St. The event will feature music and prayer.

Concert to benefit ASO
2 For the Money Part III, a benefit piano concert featuring Barbara Weller Crain and Carole Reifsteck Parsons will be held at 3 p.m. April 30, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1401 12th Ave., Altoona. Tickets will be available at the door and are $15 for adults, $5 for students; an elevator available. The concert benefits the Altoona Symphony Orchestra.
Treasure Trove planned
The Treasure Trove event at the Alexandria Presbyterian Church will be held April 29. Tickets will be available from
3 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 28, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 29, followed by the drawing at 6:30 p.m. The church is at 311 Shelton Ave. in Alexandria. All proceeds benefit local missions.
