50 years ago: April 28, 1973

The Blair County-Altoona Council of Civil Defense was to conduct a communications exercise called "COM-EX-73" in which an exercise called "Skywatch" would have citizen band radios, the state police, telephones and private airplanes communicating with each other.

25 years ago: April 28, 1998

The National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues Inc. officially awarded a Double-A baseball team franchise in Lakemont to owners Bob Lozinak and Tate DeWeese. This move released $10.8 million in state funding.

10 years ago: April 28, 2013

Under Altoona's Act 47 distressed financial status, six city police officers had retired, putting the city at 60 officers, down from 74. Under Act 47, 12 officers were eligible to retire.
