50 years ago: April 14, 1973

Judy Ricker of Hollidaysburg and her three children, Crissie, 2, Michael, 3, and Victor IV, 5, appeared in an STP auto commercial on television, using a slogan she entered in an STP commercial that didn't win.

25 years ago: April 14, 1998

Altoona Police Sgt. Christopher Cohn said that the speeding crackdown was moving from the Altoona Area High area to the rest of the city. Local police were not permitted to use radar, so used VASCAR -- Visual Average Speed Computer and Recorder System.

10 years ago: April 14, 2013

Gerald L. "Jerry" Zook, 67, a native of Morrisons Cove, died April 4 in New York City. Using the show business name of Jerry Scott, he was twice named piano bar player of the year and honored 12 times by the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs for excellence in piano. He attended the Eastman and Juilliard Schools of Music.
